RUSSELL PETERS, Live at The Hammersmith Apollo, Fri Oct 5th and Sat Oct 6th 2007
UK PRESS RELEASE

After spending the last twelve months playing sold-out theatres from Sydney to New York, the world-wide comedy phenom Russell Peters, returns to London’s Hammersmith Apollo with his all new show featuring new tales from all of his travels.

The 18 year veteran brings his all new act, plus special guest DJ, Starting From Scratch to the Apollo on October 5th (with additional shows to be added).  “Scratch is one of the best dj’s and turntablists in the world.  He has been opening for me across Canada and will now be opening for me in the UK, South Africa, Madison Square Garden (in February ’08) and in Australia,” tells Peters.

In June, Peters performed for over 30,000 fans over two nights at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.  Both shows were sold-out – a first for any comic at the world-famous home of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team.  A total of 50,000 plus fans turned-out to support the international funny man during his recent ‘Homecoming Tour’ in just five cities across Canada.

Not satisfied with being the best-known comic in Canada, Peters sold over 27,000 tickets during two tours of Australia and New Zealand in 2006.  He also did five nights of sold-out shows in Singapore, two back-to-back sold-out shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre and a sold-out tour of the UK in 2006.  Last year’s show at the Hammersmith Apollo, “was the biggest single show that I’d ever done on my own,” admits Peters.  “People were standing in the aisles and along the back of the theatre.  It was pretty wild.”

Peters’ last DVD/CD, Outsourced, sold almost 100,000 copies in his native Canada.

Earlier this year, Peters completed his first ever tour of the "Motherland”, India. Tickets for the shows sold so quickly that the promoter was left scrambling for additional venues to meet the demand. After India he performed a series of shows in Dubai, where tickets sold at a rate of one ticket every two seconds and there was a near-riot at the retail outlets (who refused to sell the additional shows after their employees feared for their lives).

"All this traveling around just helps me come up with new material.  I see things.   I talk about them.  That's what I do.”

The October UK and South Africa Tour comes complete with video screens and will be shot with three cameras so that all the fans can get a good look at the rubber-faced funny man.

Get your tickets early.  “We generally don’t do any advertising for my tours – the fans find out about the show dates from my website, or from our fan registry and somehow the shows go on-sale and suddenly sell-out!”

“I’m looking forward to coming back to England.  The English fans supported me from in my early days and I haven’t forgotten that.”
